Day-time road closure in the Eunice area due to construction as part of A Smooth Ride Home rural road improvement program:
Starting tomorrow, August 4th, for the next two weeks, Soileau Road on the west side of Hwy 13 in Eunice, will close during the day. Contractors will leave the road open in the evening hours for residents to get in and out. When school opens, they will allow the buses to enter and exit.

The annual Soireé Royal culinary competition of Acadiana's Finest Chefs, now celebrating its 17th year, is presented by the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce as a premier event and fundraiser for our scholarship program. This past May, the Chamber of Commerce provided over $10,000 dollars in scholarship to St. Landry Parish graduating seniors.
On average, over 600 tickets are purchased each year.
First and second place awards are given for the People's Choice Award and each category:
Appetizer, Soup, Meat, Seafood, Yam,
Dessert, and Chocolate.
First place winners are awarded $250.
And the coveted, Best of Show Award is awarded $500.

An incorrect day was stated in the Daily World for the Public Hearing this evening on the major modification for the St. Landry Parish sanitary landfill:
Public Hearing for landfill changes is TUESDAY, JULY 28TH AT 6PM at the Opelousas Civic Center's main auditorium located at 1638 Creswell Lane Ext.
From the Daily World: In the permit, the district proposed to expand its service area to include Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes - and to increase the landfill's capacity to 150,000 tons of garbage a year. The hearing gives people an opportunity to present statements views and opinions on the St. Landry Solid Waste Disposal District's proposed permit modification.
South Louisiana Community College's Continuing Education program will be offering a weekend welding course from Aug. 8 to Oct. 17 on the college’s T.H. Harris Campus.
Classes will be held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays in Opelousas. Course instructor is David Charles.
This course is for anyone interested in learning to weld. The appropriate level of welding will be offered based on each student’s skill level.
Instruction will be provided in various processes including oxy-fuel cutting, shielded metal arc welding, pipe welding, and plasma arc cutting. Students will spend 90 percent of class time welding and 10 percent on theory, plate preparation, and clean up.
