St. Landry Parish opened the second set of bids for its Smooth Ride Home program designed to upgrade hundreds of miles of bad roads throughout the parish. Prairie Contractors of Opelousas and Coastal Bridge of Baton Rouge were the two low-bidding companies awarded the project. A new 15-year, two-cent sales tax in the rural portions of the parish with the funds dedicated exclusively to rural road improvements is paying for the entire project.
